About Alexia Pursley BA, RP(Q)

Alexia is a licensed Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and Founder of Bohemian Psychotherapy. She has completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York University in Toronto, a diploma in Discovering the Total Self as well as a post-graduate diploma in Psychotherapy from the Transformational Arts College of Spiritual & Holistic Training. 


Alexia practices out of her office in the King West Chiropractic & Wellness Centre located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, as well as online and via telephone. Alexia uses an eclectic approach to psychotherapy, pulling from psychodynamic, humanistic, spiritual, creative and cognitive -behavioural methods. She is passionate about helping others work through their struggles from every-day life stressors and personal development, to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. 


 At Bohemian Psychotherapy, Alexia provides one-on-on psychotherapy for adults and adolescents as well as relationship therapy sessions for couples, child-parent relationships, co-workers etc.  Alexia is committed to providing a safe space for personal growth, emotional release, processing and healing. She works with clients to uncover blocks that are preventing them to live the life they desire and works to help them develop skills needed to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. 


 Alexia believes that treatment should be unique to the client, as everyone experiences their own unique journey through life. Alexia will use an array of techniques that best suit the client’s specific individual needs for the purpose of gaining insight and healing wounds. Her goal is to assist clients in discovering as well as accepting their total selves.

Psychotherapy can be seen as a process of healing wounds, a spiritual journey, a path of personal development and/or as a mental health treatment used to help individuals, couples, families, youth and children understand their moods, thoughts, feelings, behaviours and beliefs.

Emotions play a crucial role in our daily lives. If they become repressed, they can build up which results in an internal pressure. This can lead to increases in anxiety, anger, depression, unhealthy reactivity, dysfunctional behaviour, or physical (psychosomatic) symptoms. Psychotherapy focuses on the healing of the mind and the emotions, and influences our spiritual connection to ourselves and others. It provides a trained and attentive listener and comfortable, safe and nonjudgmental surroundings. This gives the client an opportunity to identify conflicts in their lives, release emotions, and learn useful coping strategies . Psychotherapy by nature is a holistic approach. Alexia is trained to assess her client's functioning from physical, emotional, mental, environmental, social, and spiritual perspectives in order to help her clients process emotions and cope more successfully. 

  

WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION?

Working with Alexia, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), you can explore, express and understand yourself on a deeper level in a safe space. Alexia's psychotherapeutic goal is to help clients work through pain and trauma, learn the skills to take control of their lives and be their true authentic selves. In session, Alexia will listen attentively to her clients to help them identify negative core beliefs, trauma, cognitive distortions, unhealthy boundaries, self-hate, blame, guilt, shame & more. Working together, Alexia will help the client to learn better stress management skills, coping skills, meditation techniques, self-care, how to set healthy boundaries, how to respond rather than react and many more useful tools. 


Alexia is extremely compassionate and mindful of the healing process and how each and every client will experience therapy in their own way.  Alexia firmly believes that the therapeutic process is determined by the clients needs and will be unique to each client. Therefore, the treatment plan and duration will be moulded to each person and their goals for therapy!
